| Illinois Historic American Buildings Survey Documentation: Logan Correctional Center Security Building, Logan County, Illinois. |
|
The Logan Correctional Center is located approximately two miles south of Lincoln, Illinois. This facility was originally constructed in 1892 as the “Farm Colony” in support of the nearby “Asylum for Feeble Minded Children.” The asylum was reorganized in 1909 and renamed the Lincoln State School and Colony, and in 1975, it was renamed the Lincoln Developmental Center. The farm campus was converted into the Logan Correctional Center, a state prison under the authority of the Illinois Department of Corrections, in 1977. The site is recognized for the important role it played in the State of Illinois’ care of mentally disabled children during the nineteenth century. This project documented the Logan Correctional Center Security building, which has since been demolished. |
