The site of the proposed parking garage was expanded into the west half of the block. During the spring of 2003, Phase II testing was conducted within this expanded project area. Instead of cutting trenches, we utilized a testing strategy that employed the excavation of larger areas with the use of a backhoe. This facilitated the removal of the overburden during the subsequent mitigation.

The rear yard activity area associated with the domestic sites in the project area contained a dense concentration of subsurface features. This photograph illustrates a series of overlapping privy pits dating from the middle nineteenth through early twentieth century.
